The NSP Grand Prix Winter is a series of training runs held between late August and Easter of the following year. The series comprises 8 handicapped runs, including the Blyth Links 10k (hosted by Blyth Running Club), 6 training runs on our main course in Whitley Bay and the clubs Fairbairn Cup starting and finishing near the iconic St. Mary’s Lighthouse.
Athletes are arranged into ‘teams’ of 8 competitors and issued with a race bib and handicap based upon their 5k & 10k race times over the preceding season. They are set off with the fastest runners going last, giving everyone a chance of being first over the line.
The ‘GP’ is recorded via a chip timing system! This is a significant investment that the organisers thank the club for supporting and reflects the sustained growth of the training series and value it presents to the club.
